President's Message…
The
2005 growing season will soon be coming to an end with the arrival of the first
killing frost. It will surely be
remembered as one of the hottest and driest in many years.
Our
Annual Show, held in August at Elizabeth Park's Pond House, was well
attended. The number of blooms entered
was down from previous years, but with such bad weather and our show being so
early we managed to have many beautiful blooms. Many thanks to all of our
members who worked so hard in making a great show! Show results are enclosed.
Other
Dahlia Shows that were held in neighboring states were well attended by our
Our
October program will be a busy one since we had no September meeting due to the
hectic show schedule last month. A
Nominating Committee must be chosen for the election of officers for the
2006-2008 term.
New officers will be elected at our November meting. Those officers will take over in
December. Please attend and cast your
vote if you have a member in mind for a particular office - this will allow
them to be on November's ballot.
We
will once again have our October Best Bloom Flower Show. Two awards will be given - Largest (AA, A, or
B) and Smallest ((all other sizes).
Please stage your blooms in your own containers. Same show rules apply that were in our show
schedule.
If
you are a new member to our society, it is important to note that we'll also
have a dahlia root dividing and storage demonstration at this meeting. There will be lots of great techniques shown
so that you'll be able to get your dahlias packed away correctly for their long
winter nap.
New
members who joined at our show in August are encouraged to attend our monthly
meetings. Lots of great information is
always shared among our growers, plus there is a monthly program to help both
new and seasoned growers become even better at growing great dahlias…please try
to attend!
See
you at the meeting…
