President's Message
Even
though the planting time for dahlias is at least 2 1/2 months off, it's never
too early to start planning the 2004 garden!
Have
you placed your dahlia orders yet? Are your supplies of stakes, labels and
marking pens sufficient and in good condition?
How about that soil test I talked about last month? Start taking an inventory of your supplies
and order what you need while you have not only the time but also the less
hectic pace March weather offers.
Suppliers have ample inventory at this time and there should be no worry
of depleted stock supplies. This is also
an excellent time to draw out a map of your dahlia garden with rows plotted out
and the varieties listed on the plan that you intend to grow this year.
How
many of us are guilty of planting too many tubers of one particular variety
that causes a space problem for varieties we still need to plant? It also helps out if you lose a variety tag
and can look at your garden layout map and find out what variety is planted
there.
Proper
planning and ordering early will save you when planting time actually arrives -
don't get caught short handed!
See
you at the meeting…
