President's Message…

The plant sale at Elizabeth Park on May 14th turned out to be a successful one for our Society.  Even though no plants were available this year, the society sold approximately 50 bags of dahlia roots!  We actually ran out.  We even sold bags of canna roots donated by Dave and Dottie Crockett with only one bag of these left over.  More information will be given about the sale at the meeting.  Thank you's go out to Marge Schnerr, Jessie Peterson and Larry Carlson for their generous time given to help with the auction and setting up the display garden.

This is a busy time in the dahlia garden.  The soil needs cultivating, amendments added, and the stakes set in place for the dahlia roots.  Remember not to overwater the roots when they first set out.  Also, keep an eye out for slugs that love to eat young dahlia plants.

The weather this month has been one for the record books.  It's the second coldest May since 1907 and one of the driest also.  Hopefully, our weather will return to a more "normal" pattern.

If you have finished planting your roots and have extras that you don't need, please bring them to the June meeting and we'll have a table set up to auction them off.  Someone may have a home for them.

Hope to see you at the June meeting…
