President's Message…

I hope everyone will be able to join us for a great summer outing at the home of Jonathan and Barbara Wooten not only for a beautiful place for a summer picnic, but to enjoy the many gardens that surround the Wooten's home.  Hundreds of daylilies, specimen trees, and of course, dahlias are all part of the display.  A big thank you again to the Wootens for hosting this year's picnic.

The society will provide hotdogs, hamburgers, chicken and soft drinks.  Society members are asked to bring a side dish or desert.  Please contact me (Kevin) at (203)-269-6943 so that we can coordinate side dishes to avoid too may duplicates.

Also, Nick Paternostro of our Ways and Means Committee is requesting auction donations to help raise money for the society - something maybe a fellow gardener could use.

Please try to join us for what will be a great day.  Please remember to bring a lawn chair too.  The directions to the Wooten's home can be found at the end of this newsletter.

So far June has turned out to be on the dry side for many growers that I have spoken to.  Hopefully this won't continue for the rest of the summer.  Each plant should be getting approximately one gallon of water a week to prosper well.  Also check your plants for insect problems and spray accordingly.

PS:  Spouses and significant others are of course welcome guests!

C.D.S. President
