President's Message

We hope you will join us for our first meeting of 2004 on Saturday, January 10th.  It would be marvelous to gather together as many members as possible to work on generating new ideas and goals for the coming year.

My two key initial areas of development will be growing our society's membership, and involving more of our members in the organization's activities.  To do this we will need to work together to develop our overall plans to embrace and educate our CDS members and other lovers of dahlias throughout the State of Connecticut.

What would you consider a vital CDS endeavor for 2004?  We'd love to hear your thoughts!

A new slate of society officers has been presented for 2004. Please plan to attend, vote and help us conclude this process at the upcoming meeting. A quorum is needed for voting.  Nominations for officers are:

     President:              Kevin Wasilewski

     Vice President:      Marge Schnerr

     Secretary:             Barbara LaRochelle

     Treasurer:             Donna Paternostro

     Editor:                   Becky Raiola Paul

I look forward to seeing you next Saturday evening.  Please call either (203) 269-6943 or (203) 458-8733 should the weather become inclement to confirm our get together.

Happy New Year!

Kevin Wasilewski

CDS (Acting) President

A note from your (Acting) Editor…

All right, so the email address is different and the return address on the envelope is foreign.  Just who prepared this month's newsletter?

The condensed version of the CDS monthly communication is being written by Becky Paul, who answered Jesse's and Marge's plea for assistance in the last newsletter.

I joined CDS in 2003 with the hope of learning more about my beautiful dahlias. Dad and I have been nurturing tubers for many years but in a very elementary manner.  I knew it was time to become involved after hearing Kevin's presentation on the topic at a FGCC Judge's Council meeting.  There's so much to learn.

Currently I am President of the Connecticut Master Gardener's Association for the second year, having served as Vice President for the two years prior. In this capacity I have written the group's newsletter, The Laurel, for a few years as well as writing weekly gardening articles over the last two years for The New London Day's "Garden Corner" and The Shoreline Times papers. I graduated as an Advanced Master Gardener in 2003.

Other associated active roles include Treasurer of the UCONN New Haven County Extension Resource Council, Horticulture Therapy Chair for Guilford Garden Club, and Student Judge of the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut.

I am hoping to meet and get to know each of you over time.  Contact info is: telephone: (203)-458-8413; and, email:  r.r.paul@att.net.
